Man accused of throwing kidnapped girl from bridge due in court

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Worcester man accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl and tossing her from a bridge into Lake Quinsigamond last month is due in court Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Joshua Hubert, 35, was at a barbeque in Worcester Aug. 27 when they claim he kidnapped the sleeping girl, choked he, drove her to the I-290 bridge over Lake Quinsigamond and tossed her over the side.

The little girl miraculously survived the terrifying plunge into the water and was able to swim to shore about 100 yards away in Shrewsbury.

The girl’s injuries were described as minor.

Hubert is already being held in jail on $1 million bail on a kidnapping charge related to this incident. In court on Tuesday he’s expected to be formally charged with attempted murder.

Since Hubert’s arrest Boston 25 News learned he is lifelong friends with the girl’s father and said he could never hurt her.

Prosecutors have yet to lay out a possible motive for the alleged attack.

Hubert is expected to appear in Westborough District Court sometime on Tuesday.
