Mailman arrested for spanking boy

MANCHESTER, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) - A mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly assaulting a child in his mail truck.

Frank Saucier, of Tyngsboro, is charged with a Class A Misdemeanor Assault on a Child.  He has been released on $5,000 bail.

According to a warrant affidavit, Saucier let several children into his postal vehicle and instructed them to "play house" while inside. During one of these occasions, Saucier allegedly spanked a 10-year-old boy for "misbehaving."

As Saucier walked out of the police station, his wife denied the charge, calling it "untrue" and "a lie."

Sgt. Craig Rousseau told FOX 25, "On some occasions, Mr. Saucier would, in the course of playing house, would pretend to be the father figure. And he would spank the child as a disciplinary thing."

"The behavior itself is odd, it's suspicious, it's disturbing. We're investigating it and we'll take it to wherever it leads us," said Sgt. Rousseau.

Officials say the assault happened on Saucier's mail route on the West Side of Manchester.

Parents in the Amory Street neighborhood became suspicious of Saucier's behavior as they recently became aware of the children being inside the postal vehicle.

Police are speaking with multiple parents in order to determine if Saucier will face more charges.

Police say the activity allegedly started in September 2011.  Saucier has been employed by the U.S. Postal Service since 2007, and he has been working that route for a year.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed against Saucier.  He is expected to be arraigned at a later date.
