Lunenburg boy with epilepsy becomes officer for the day

LUNENBERG, Mass. — A young boy suffering from severe epilepsy got the thrill of a lifetime Friday.

"We want to make you your very own police car. This is your new police car,” said officers, as they presented the 7-year-old with his dream gift.

Lunenburg police officers, several of them on their day off, made a special delivery to 7-year-old Hunter Specht.

Hunter suffers from a severe form of epilepsy and can get up to 10 seizures per day. He loves the police and his dream is to be an officer someday.

Hunter will never drive due to his condition – so the customized mini ride-on police SUV was an incredible surprise.

It has flashing flights, a radio and is decked out in police decals.

Sarah Specht, Hunter’s mother, said the Lunenburg police officers have always gone above and beyond when interacting with Hunter, something that she is so grateful for.

“It shows Hunter there are people that he can trust and are there for him, because, at times, he feels really lonely,” she said.

On Friday, they not only gave him the SUV, but swore him in, making him an honorary officer for a day.

"To see a smile on his face is just wonderful.  He's a kid with a lot of challenges.  It's nice to give some happiness to him,” said Officer Josh Tocci.

Hunter's mother, Sarah, hopes by having the police officers surprise her son, that it will raise awareness about epilepsy.
