CAPE COD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A new Cape Cod mother, Lee Manillo, died just one day after giving birth to twin baby boys. There's been such a show of support from friends and from all over the web.
Manillo had waited her whole life for the day she would give birth, and Wednesday she did, to two healthy baby boys, Nicholas and Van.
"She had a very successful delivery we received pictures of the boys she was so excited sending text messages of the boys and that was Wednesday," Manilloâs friend Karen Costa said.
But the very next day, her friends and family got the worst news they ever could have imagined. Manillo passed away at Brigham and Women's Thursday morning, just hours after meeting her twin boys.
"Unfortunately, just something happened the next morning, her heart stopped and they were never able to get it back despite all that they did to try," Costa said.
Doctors found a blood clot before she had the babies, but never imagined anything like this, Costa said. She says this has been the hardest on Manilloâs husband Rich, who's now getting to know his two little boys without the love of his life.
"He's gutted. He is heartbroken. He has lost his soul mate and he has lost the mother of his children but he is doing the best he can,â Costa said.
Friends and family said goodbye to Manillo at her funeral in West Falmouth on Thursday. As they try to cope with the reality of life without her, they're trying their best to stay strong for her husband and two little boys.
"For Rich, Nick and Van all we can do is rally the best we can," Costa said.
A YouCaring website has raised almost $100,000 for Manillo's twins and husband. You can donate here.
