Yelp names top ice cream shops in New England ahead of National Ice Cream Day

BOSTON — Yelp has compiled a list of the top ice cream shops in every state ahead of National Ice Cream Day this weekend.

The popular review platform says it ranked the best ice cream shops by using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews between April 21, 2021, and April 21, 2022.

Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour in Mashpee earned the top honor in the Bay State. The business, which was was established in 1995, is said to have “quite possibly the best ice cream you have ever tasted.”

The top ice cream shops in the other New England states are as follows, according to Yelp:

• New Hampshire -- Tricks and Treats in North Conway
• Maine -- Mount Desert Island Ice Cream in Bar Harbor
• Rhode Island -- Tricycle Ice Cream in Providence
• Connecticut -- Arethusa Farm Dairy in New Haven
• Vermont -- Shy Guy Gelato in Burlington

National Ice Cream will be celebrated on Sunday, July 17.
