Woman dies while scuba diving with her father in water off Rockport

ROCKPORT, Mass — Authorities are investigating after a woman died while scuba diving with her father off Rockport over the weekend.

According to the Essex District Attorney’s Office, Rockport police were notified late Saturday afternoon of a potential drowning near the Dry Salvages rock mount about two miles offshore northwest of the town.

Sara Elizabeth Nivens, 40, of South Boston, was rushed to the hospital after she was helped back onto a charter boat while she was diving with her father.

The boat later docked at T-Wharf in Rockport.

Nivens was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital, before being transferred to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, she died in the hospital on Monday, the DA says.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
