‘We feel a collective pain’: UMass Dartmouth mourning student who was struck, killed on campus

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth school community is mourning a student who was struck and killed by a car on campus.

Frank Petillo, Jr., a freshman bioengineering student, was fatally struck on Thursday, according to Chancellor Mark A. Fuller.

“This has been a very difficult week for the Corsair community. We feel a collective pain even if we do not personally know those who have passed,” Fuller said in a letter to the school community. “We sit in class together. We work together. We pass each other in the halls. We are often more connected than we realize. If you need support, please reach out to someone.”

Fuller didn’t disclose any additional details on the crash.

There will be extended hours at the campus counseling center on Friday for grieving classmates. A support help line has also been made available at 508-910-4357.
