SAUGUS, Mass. — A filmmaker flew a drone through the iconic Kowloon restaurant on Route 1 in Saugus over the weekend, capturing a drone’s view of a private wedding reception that closed the eatery to the public for the first time in 73 years.
Harrison Hodson shared a video of the FPV drone flythrough on Instagram, with a caption that read, “The legendary Kowloon was closed to the public for the first time in 73 years for a private wedding party that we had the honor of capturing.”
Hodson, who was hired to document the wedding, posted the incredible footage to Instagram on Tuesday.
The video starts off with the drone flying through Kowloon’s well-known entryway and into the dining room, where a number of guests wearing Boston sports jerseys are seen clinking their glasses together for a toast. The camera then swings along a number of tables, showing hundreds of people in casual attire dining on Asian cuisine.
The camera also captured images of an outdoor area with red lanterns, a dancefloor, and a DJ on a podium cranking tunes.
Before the show-stopping reception, Kayla and Jon were married at sea surrounded by friends and family. Captain Jeff Brown with Cape Ann Cruises told Boston 25 that Kayla, her close family and bridesmaids boarded the 46-passenger Wejack yacht before the bride-to-be climbed into her fiancee’s boat to exchange vows. The two then sped off, spending their first moments as man and wife on the high seas before regrouping with the rest of the party at Kowloon.
“Congratulations to Kayla and Jon!!” said Captain Jeff Brown. ”It was one of the most memorable and fun weddings we’ve done, and we wish Kayla and Jon a bright future.”
Earlier this month, the restaurant took to Facebook to announce that it would be closed to dining on Saturday, Aug. 19, for “Kayla and Jon’s wedding” and that takeout orders would only be available until 6 p.m. on the historic day.
