Two in serious, critical condition after shooting in Salem

SALEM, Mass. — Salem Police are investigating a double shooting that left two people seriously injured on Sunday.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots an apartment on Perkins Street around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers found a 30-year-old woman of Salem and a 33-year-old man of Lynn suffering multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Both were able to leave the building on their own and were brought to a hospital in Boston where they remain in serious and critical condition, police said Monday early afternoon.

After initial investigation, police said the shootings were not random and that the victims may know their attacker. Salem Police are investigating and attempting to identify the shooter who remains at large.

Acting Chief of Police Dennis King said, “Incidents like that which happened on Perkins Street last night are traumatic and effect our entire community.

“We want the community to know that our detectives are working diligently to locate and apprehend the shooter and bring a sense of safety back to the neighborhood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
