CHICOPEE, Mass. — Two people are dead following an early morning house fire in Chicopee.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s office, the Chicopee Fire Department responded to 15 Hudson Ave after a neighbor’s 9-1-1 call around 2:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-story, single-family home engulfed in flames, with heavy fire shooting through windows on three sides of the structure.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames and protect nearby homes. It took more than an hour for crews to bring the fire under control.

Inside the home, firefighters located two victims, who were both pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of their deaths will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

“This is a terribly sad day for the victims’ loved ones and our community,” said Chicopee Fire Chief Daniel Stamborski. “Our thoughts are with the family right now.”

A Department of Fire Services (DFS) Rehab unit was dispatched to the scene to ensure the health and safety of firefighters in the bitter cold conditions.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Chicopee Fire Department, Chicopee Police Department, State Police fire investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police from the Hampden District Attorney’s office.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
