State police searching for 2 cars that may have been racing before deadly crash on I-93 in Braintree

BRAINTREE, Mass. — Authorities are turning to the public for help tracking down two vehicles that may have been racing at high speeds prior to a crash on Interstate 93 in Braintree that left a man dead over the weekend.

The multi-car crash happened on the northbound side of the highway near Exit 6 just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Michael Wojdag, 46, of Hanson, was driving a black 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that went off the road when it was struck by a black 2019 Honda Civic sedan, state police said. He was later pronounced dead.

Two other occupants in Wojdag’s Tahoe, a 45-year-old woman and a teenage boy, were taken to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.

State police noted that the Civic’s five occupants, who were not injured, remained on scene and were interviewed by troopers.

Evidence collected during the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash suggests the possible involvement of two other vehicles operating at a high rate of speed, possibly racing each other, according to state police.

In a statement, state police said, “One of those vehicles may have struck the Civic, forcing it into the Tahoe. The only description at this time is that one of the other vehicle was a sedan.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the other vehicles is urged to contact the state police Milton barracks at 617-698-5840 or the Troop H detective unit at 617-740-7544.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
