CHELSEA, Mass. — Police said a woman attempted to rob a man she met on a dating app at the Hampton Inn in Chelsea.
Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes said the hotel at 200 Second St. was locked down shortly after 10 a.m. for a report of shots fired in the elevator. Officers cleared and searched all rooms with assistance from Mass. State Police while issuing a shelter in place order to hotel guests. The hotel was deemed safe at 10:45 a.m.
“I seen a couple of people running out of the hotel like crazy,” said Luis Ramirez, a witness.
Officials said 18-year-old Janasia Nelson of Dorchester robbed the man after they got to their hotel room and took off. The man reportedly chased after her, and shots were fired into the elevator.
It’s currently unclear who fired the shots, and no injuries have been reported at this time.

“From what we hear from the victim, why he was not wearing clothes? She found an opportune time to steal his property. He went and chased her,” said Captain Keith Houghton of the Chelsea Police Department.
The woman jumped into an Uber but was located and arrested in Mattapan. She will face four charges, including armed robbery and larceny, and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
“There was some type of firearm, we are still trying to see if it’s a legitimate firearm, but it was fired,” Captain Houghton said.
Captain Houghton is warning the public about the dangers of dating apps.
“It’s anonymity, you don’t know who you’re dealing with; they don’t do background checks,” he said.
