‘She’s always right’: Sharon couple celebrates 75 years of marriage

SHARON, Mass — A Sharon couple is celebrating a major milestone.

Sonny and Charlotte Freedman are celebrating their 75 wedding anniversary, they got married on May 26, 1948.

Sonny is a WWII veteran who just turned 99 last week, and Charlotte is 94. The love birds live together in Sharon and have lived there since 1955.

The couple has raised their three children in Sharon and have 7 grandkids and 7 great-grandkids.

The couple shared the story of how they met to Boston 25. Charlotte is from Malden and Sonny is from Roxbury. Charlotte, who is an identical twin, happened to be friends with Sonny’s younger sisters, who are also a set of twins. One day Charlotte went over to her friend’s house and said she was immediately ‘smitten’ with their handsome older brother (Sonny).

The couple are very active members of the local community throughout the years and have even worked in the schools later on after their retirement just to be able to see more of their grandkids during the week!

‘She is what kept me alive all these years,” Sonny said.

When asked what is the secret to being married 75 years, Charlotte said “You have to respect one another, and you never go to bed mad.”

“Do whatever she wants to do, she’s always right,” Sonny answered.

The couple celebrated the major milestone in Sharon on Saturday afternoon surrounded by friends and family.
