The Boston Red Sox are close to trading a once-vaunted prospect to the San Francisco Giants for another bullpen arm.
The Sox will acquire left-handed reliever Erik Miller in a trade that will send infielder Marclo Mayer to San Francisco, according to reports.

Mayer arrived in Boston last spring with a huge amount of fanfare but has struggled to stay on the field consistently. He has since hit .223 with a .625 OPS and struck out 85 times over 114 games and 364 plate appearances. He was battling an arm injury and hadn’t played since June 25, going 0-4 with two strikeouts.
Miller, who will be under Boston’s control for another three years after the 2026 season, has a 2.72 ERA out of the pen.
The Red Sox have been busy at the trade deadline, acquiring catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles and outfielder Eli White from the Atlanta Braves.
