MARTHA'S VINEYARD, Mass. — A Cambridge man has died after a swimming incident on a Martha’s Vineyard beach on Friday, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office announced.
The victim was identified as 55-year-old Kevin Foster.
The incident occurred on Friday when West Tisbury authorities rescued an individual from the water who was struggling to return to the shore. That person, now identified as Foster, was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, where he passed away.
According to The Trustees on Martha’s Vineyard, Long Point Wildlife Refuge Beaches were closed on Saturday and Sunday due to a “tragic incident” on Friday. Reservations were refunded.
The beaches are expected to reopen today.
No further details were released as to what exactly happened during the incident or what occurred.
