Red Sox trade for 3x All-Star Catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox are making a big trade just before the end of the MLB trade deadline, acquiring catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles.

Rutschman, a 3x All-Star, was the number one overall draft pick back in the 2019 MLB Entry Draft.

Making his debut in 2022, Rutschman has been a consistent bat for the Orioles, batting a career average .254 BA with a .756 OPS and nearly 300 RBI’s.

Rutschman, who has been an efficient batter and offensive player for the Orioles, has had an up-and-down 2026 season. While putting up good numbers, Rutschman has been dealing with lingering injuries this season.

So far, Rutschman is hitting .251 with 19 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 47 RBIs and a .764 OPS over 67 games.

When healthy, he has looked the best he has so far in his career defensively, throwing out 16 basestealers, tying his second-career best.

Alongside his 3 All-Star appearances, Rutschman also earned a Silver Slugger award in 2023 and an All-MLB First Team appearance.

According to the MLB, the Sox trade prospect Right-hander Anthony Eyanson to the Orioles. According to sources, Eyanson is the centerpiece of the deal, with other unnamed players in the deal.

Additionally, the Orioles are also getting Boston catcher Carlos Narváez, plus RHP Kyson Witherspoon (BOS No. 4 prospect), OF Enddy Azocar (BOS No. 5) and a player to be named later.

Eyanson was selected in the third round of the 2025 MLB Entry Draft from the LSU Tigers.

The top pitching prospect and the number 2 overall prospect for the Sox’s farm system has started 10 games for Double-A Portland, earning a 4-0 record and 1.69 ERA.

The Red Sox are back home tomorrow, getting ready for a three game series against the White Sox. First pitch is at 7:10 PM
