Police officer hospitalized after crash involving MBTA train, cruiser on North Shore

ROCKPORT, Mass. — A police officer was taken to the hospital following a crash involving an MBTA train in Rockport on Sunday night, officials said.

Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash in the area of Poole’s Lane crossing around 8 p.m. found a train that had collided with a Rockport police cruiser, according to Rockport Police Chief John Horvath.

The train and cruiser were both operating at a slow speed at the time of the crash, investigators said.

There was no immediate word on the extent of the officer’s injuries.

There were 10 passengers on the train at the time. None of them reported being hurt.

Transit police are leading an investigation into the incident.
