DA: 28-year-old Boston man dies after being shot multiple times in Norwood neighborhood

NORWOOD, Mass. — A Boston man has died after he was shot multiple times on Sturtevant Avenue in Norwood on Sunday, the district attorney said Monday.

Police received a 911 call reporting the shooting shortly before 6 p.m.

Witnesses say the victim was in his car which was filled with bullet holes as it got towed away around 10 p.m. Sunday night.

The anonymous witnesses tell us the suspect shot the victim while he was in his car before speeding away.

“I heard like six gunshots go off, it was about three to the shoulder and three to the chest as well,” the witness said. “I heard tires peel off. We saw the guy walk out he took about 12 steps and collapsed to the ground. He was still talking, conscious, and alert and his wife came out. She was obviously in hysterics and I just stuck with him until the fire department got there.”

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Shakim Lewis-Johnson of Hyde Park, was flown to Mass General Hospital but did not survive emergency surgery.

Police say the nearby residents don’t appear to be at risk. Those nearby residents are still trying to process what just happened.

“Honestly I’m a little surprised because realistically, this is a pretty quiet neighborhood,” a resident named Justin said. “It’s more like the country vibes so it definitely is a shocker.”

And for the people who had to witness this, they say they did everything they could to help.

“He wasn’t bleeding through profusely at that point, so there wasn’t much I could do in terms of stopping the bleeding,” said the witness. “I was more on the scene in case he went unconscious.”

Investigators said the shooting does not appear to be random and they do not believe the public is at risk.

Police said the shooter or shooters were in a vehicle, and the number of suspects being sought by police was also unknown Sunday night.

The investigation is ongoing.
