LAWRENCE, Mass. — Officials said a 35-year-old man died after being shot late Tuesday night in Lawrence.
Lawrence Police got a call at 11:49 p.m. saying shots had been fired at 7B Summer Street. Officials found the man, later identified as Wilson Javier, of Salem, New Hampshire, and said he was brought to Lawrence General Hospital where he died shortly after arriving.
Lawrence police spending the entire night searching for evidence at the apartments before leaving the scene Wednesday morning.
Residents tell us violence and drug activity is a frequent problem in the neighborhood. Some are asking for more police patrols.
We spoke with a woman who has lived there for 20 years and says she heard what may have been gunshots last night.
"I think it was, sounded like firecrackers, but that happens all the time and you don't know what it is, and I'm not coming out to find out," Sandra Shalhoub said.
The Essex District Attorney, Essex State Police Detectives and Lawrence Police are investigating.
