A man dies after an apparent gunshot wound to the head in a Cape Cod home

HYANNIS, Mass. — People who live in this quiet Hyannis neighborhood are worried after someone shot and killed 50-year-old Eric Christensen of Hyannis.

“Shock - we really don’t know why or how that happened,” said Cathy Gallant who lives next door.

Investigators tell Boston 25 Christensen was shot inside his home at 91 Oakview Terrace. Another neighbor tells Boston 25 he heard three gunshots. The man who lives next door to him saw and heard the commotion after those shots were fired.

“I had spoken with a neighbor who did say they heard three gunshots and then we witnessed the ambulance coming down,” said Neil Maloney, who lives a few houses away.

Investigators tell Boston 25 that police got a 911 call. Once inside they found Christensen on the kitchen floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what would ever trigger someone to do something like that,” Gallant said.

Maloney was also are shaken by the shooting now being investigated as a murder.

“Kind of nerve-wracking. I moved away from where I was to get away from that and try to get a quieter neighborhood,” Maloney said.

Christensen’s roommate was apparently home when he was shot. He is not under arrest.

“He’s a good kid,” Gallant said.

Gallant also says Christensen was friendly but kept to himself and that he worked for a local radio station.

“He did the promos and stuff for a radio station,” she said.

The general manager at Cape Cod Radio sent Boston 25 this statement:

“Eric was a valued part of our promotions team and station family for several years. We are deeply shaken by this tragic event. " said Tim Levesque, the general manager of Cape Cod Radio.

And with no suspect in custody, Maloney and his wife will remain on guard until there is.

“I’m not leaving the house with her alone and things like that,” Maloney said.

A spokesperson for the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office says this incident remains under investigation.
