Family, friends grieve 16-year-old killed during Brockton house party

BROCKTON, Mass.` — Family and friends are mourning the loss of a 16-year-old who was shot and killed during a house party in Brockton.

It happened around 1:40 a.m. Saturday at 40 Sprague Ave.

Neighbors said the house was full of people for a party that had been promoted on social media.

A crowd of people scattered from the scene after the shots rang out.

Liedson Monteiro-Terry was pronounced dead on scene.

Investigators have not said if they believe he was the intended target of the gunfire.

“The kid is 16. It doesn’t matter what was going on. That’s just way too young to be gone,” said Joel McKernan, the victim’s former football coach.

McKernan first met Monteiro-Terry when he was just 10.

He told Boston 25 News he’s hoping others who were at the gathering will share whatever they saw or heard with police.

“I would hope someone saw something at that party. I hope someone will come forward and help bring this family justice,” said McKernan.

The victim’s older brother told Boston 25 News the entire family is devastated and sorting through the difficult process of making funeral arrangements.

Brockton Police and Massachusetts State Police are actively investigating the teen’s murder.

Authorities have not made any arrests in the case.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
