Whitman man who ran Newton circus school accused of sexually assaulting 15-year-old student

WHITMAN, Mass. — A Whitman man who ran a circus school in Newton is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced Friday.

Whitman Police arrested Steven Santos, 43, at his home Thursday after a months-long investigation.

Cruz said Santos operated Simply Circus, a business that offered circus coaching and acrobatics training. He’s accused of sexually assaulting a former student on four separate occasions in July and August of last year.

Santos was arraigned Thursday in Brockton District Court on three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older and one count of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge set his bail at $7,500, ordered him to stay away from the victim and their family and not to have any contact with children.

Santos is due back in court on March 19 for a pretrial conference.

Cruz said Santos is no longer employed with Simply Circus.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Whitman Police Sergeant Peter Aitken at 781-447-1212.
