Boston diners donned their Derby best to enjoy the greatest two minutes in sports Saturday evening.
Joe’s Waterfront in Long Wharf held a Kentucky Derby watch party, inviting diners to show up in attire worthy of Churchill Downs.
The humans weren’t the only ones looking spiffy. Two ponies from Hunter Haven Farm in Groveland crashed the party, decked in festive flowers.
“We really just wanted to add to the community today you know with Cinco de Mayo and Derby all in the same weekend,” said manager Bruno Marini. “It’s fun, it’s also the launch of our summer here at the Waterfront.”
Guests were able to compete in “Best in Show” competitions to decide the best-dressed attendee. There was also a raffle benefiting the NEW Health community center in Boston’s North End.
But like every Derby Day, the talk of the town were the ones in horseshoes.
“Everybody is outside taking pictures of it,” said manager Jessica Hassan. “They think it’s a petting zoo outside but it’s not haha.”
“Everyone seems so happy to be here and like excited,” said server Carolyn Fletcher. “I think just to get people in like the springtime spirit and to celebrate something fun”
