Newton 4-year-old will have her artwork displayed at The Louvre

NEWTON, Mass. — Sophia Baptista is like most 4-year-olds. She loves to paint. But unlike any other 4-year-old, Sophia’s paintings will be displayed at the most famous museum in the world.

“I mean this is a big step for our daughter. To be showing her paintings to family, to friends, and now to a big global audience. This is just unbelievable,” said Sophia’s mother, Lane Baptista.

The Newton preschooler has been invited to be part of The International Contemporary Art Fair at the Louvre in October 2022. It came about after Sophia’s mother sent some of her daughter’s artwork to a curator in her native Brazil. After the curator analyzed the paintings and interviewed Sophia and her parents, Sophia was invited to represent the curator’s team at the Art Fair in Paris.

“We are very, very happy for her to be showcased among so many talented artists on an international platform. It is such an honor for us as parents. We could never have imagined,” Baptista said.

Baptista says her daughter has no formal training and that she just enjoys painting. Sophia’s painting is now taking her all the way to Paris. She will also be featured in an art book, which will launch during the Art Fair.
