BOSTON — An overheight truck got stuck in Boston’s Callahan Tunnel ahead of the Friday afternoon commute, leading to heavy traffic backups in the area, transportation officials said.
The truck got wedged under the roof in the tunnel on the northbound side of Route 1A before 1 p.m., according to MassDOT.
Officials released new videos showing the moment, the truck “driver realized the mistake and backed the truck up,” before getting caught in the tunnel.
Both lanes were reopened around 1:30 p.m. when the truck was cleared but motorists were warned of residual delays.
This incident comes as commuters continue to navigate the closure of the Sumner Tunnel, which has been shut down to traffic due to ongoing repair and restoration work.
There were no additional details immediately available.
