New Green Line community path gets plenty of use on opening day

SOMERVILLE, Mass — The Green Line Extension Community Path has been open for less than 24 hours but was already getting plenty of use Saturday.

Both bicyclists and walkers populated the freshly paved path designed to better connect Somerville residents with access to MBTA public transport.

As an alternative to driving, riders can walk, bike, or run on the path connecting to the Magoun Square, Gilman Square, East Somerville, and Lechmere Stations Green Line stations.

“The Green Line Extension Community Path offers a critical connection point between public transportation and the many wonderful pathways, bikeways, and other community spaces in Somerville and beyond,” said Governor Maura Healey. “We are excited to open the Community Path this weekend and grateful to the City of Somerville and the MBTA team for their collaboration to make this project a reality.”
