Largest beep baseball tournament held in Woburn

WOBURN, Mass. — Boston 25 News stopped by Woburn, where the largest “Beep” Baseball Tournament was held Sunday.

“Beep” Baseball gives those who are visually impaired a chance to play the game they love.

Five teams were fighting for the “Beast of the East” crown, including the Boston Renegades.

“Everyone who’s on the field is required to be blind,” says Jason Lenicheck, the team’s hitting coach and spotter. “In order to level the playing field for everybody, they all have to wear a blindfold because there’s a wide range of what it means to be blind. Might be total lack of vision or might just be substantial lack of vision. So if everyone puts on a blindfold, everybody’s got nothing.”

The “Beast of the East” is the Boston Renegades’ final regional “tune up.”

After this, they’re gearing up for the National Beep Baseball Association World Series, which will be held next month in Norman, Oklahoma.
