WALTHAM, Mass. — An equipment failure caused a manhole cover to lift from the ground and hit a car in Waltham Wednesday afternoon, Eversource spokesperson Reid Lamberty told Boston 25 News.
Waltham Fire Lieutenant Scott Perry said the incident happened around 1 p.m. in the area of 81 Wyman Street.
“We had a manhole lift and hit a car,” Lamberty said.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring from the manhole.
Perry said the driver of the car had minor injuries, but he wasn’t sure if they were taken to a hospital.
Joseph Sharkey witnessed the aftermath. Pictures he took of the scene show a car with heavy damage to the front driver’s side.
