BOURNE, Mass. — The Mattapoisett police chief was arrested over the weekend in Bourne following a traffic stop northbound on Route 28.

Boston 25 was told the traffic stop occurred at 10:52 p.m. Saturday when a Trooper from the Massachusetts State Police-Bourne barracks observed a 2014 Lexus GX460 operating erratically. The Trooper ultimately decided to pull the vehicle over.

After approaching the vehicle and observing the driver, the Trooper decided to conduct a field sobriety test and later determined that the driver was intoxicated.

The driver, identified at Mattapoisett Police Chief Mary Lyons, was booked at the Bourne Barracks on a charge of OUI liquor and was also cited for a marked lanes violation.

A bail clerk released Lyons on personal recognizance pending arraignment in Falmouth District Court.
