Massive fire destroys home on Nantucket

NANTUCKET, Mass. — A raging blaze destroyed a home on Nantucket early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responding to a report of a fire that had erupted on West York Lane around 2 a.m. found fast-moving flames engulfing a multi-million-dollar home, the Nantucket Current reported.

The fire reduced the island home to a pile of charred rubble, in part because crews struggled at the scene with accessing a sufficient water supply, according to the news outlet.

Crews were finally able to bring the fire under control around 3:30 a.m., but the home was a total loss.

No one had been living in the home since the fall, neighborhood residents told the Current. It was reportedly sold for $2.29 million in October.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In July 2022, Nantucket’s historic Veranda House bed and breakfast was gutted by a devastating fire.
