Massachusetts ranked among happiest states in America

BOSTON — Massachusetts ranks among the happiest states in America, according to a new study.

Wallet Hub says it compared the 50 states across 30 key indicators of happiness to determine where Americans have the highest satisfaction with life. Those data set ranges from the depression rate and the share of adults feeling productive to income growth and the unemployment rate.

Researchers at the personal-finance company released their findings after learning 87 percent of Americans are feeling “anxious” or “very anxious” about inflation.

The Bay State checked in as the 14th happiest state, while Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Utah, and New Jersey rounded out the top five happiest states.

Here’s how Massachusetts ranked in some key indicators, according to researchers:

  • 19th – % of Depressed Adults
  • 19th – Adequate-Sleep Rate
  • 3rd – Suicide Rate
  • 5th – Number of Work Hours
  • 29th – Volunteer Rate
  • 11th – Separation & Divorce Rate
  • 9th – Income Growth
  • 7th – Safety
  • 30th – Share of Adults Feeling Active & Productive

Connecticut was the only New England state to rank inside the top 10 happiest states. New Hampshire ranked 15th, just behind Massachusetts.
