Man facing murder charge in death of woman found repeatedly stabbed in Chelsea

CHELSEA, Mass. — A man has been arrested in the death of a woman who was found repeatedly stabbed inside an apartment building in Chelsea on Monday morning.

Angel T. Alvarez, 65, of North Dartmouth, is slated to be arraigned Tuesday in Chelsea District Court on a charge of murder in the death of 59-year-old Margarita Morehead, according to law enforcement officials.

Officers responding to a report of a domestic disturbance on the first floor of 44 Lafayette Avenue shortly before 10 a.m. found Morehead suffering from several stab wounds, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.

Morehead was taken to CHA Everett Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Neighbors had nothing but concern after learning of Morehead’s death.

“I’m nervous I was afraid.. when I first heard it.. I’ll probably be more afraid when I’m up there alone in my apartment,” said Pamela Rivera.

Rivera lives on the top floor of the building and says things were quiet when she left home early in the morning for work, but she returned to an active crime scene.

“This is scary,” Rivera added.

A motive for the alleged attack wasn’t immediately clear.

State troopers assigned to the Suffolk DA’s office are assisting Chelsea police with an investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
