Lindsay Clancy trial (live updates): Psychiatrists who treated Duxbury mom take the stand

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Testimony in the Lindsay Clancy triple murder trial continues Friday, with jurors hearing from two of the psychiatrists involved in the Duxbury mother’s treatment before the deaths of her three children.
Dr. Alia Goodheart and Dr. Jennifer Tufts were both called to the stand in Plymouth Superior Court as the trial enters its ninth day. Goodheart and Tufts are also among the medical providers named in a malpractice lawsuit filed by Lindsay Clancy and her husband, Patrick Clancy.
DA: At any time on 1/23rd she says she planned to kill herself Dr. Tufts: no DA: any plans to kill her children? Dr. Tufts: absolutely not. #lindsayclancy@boston25
Next appt with Dr. Tufts was 1.23.23 day before the murders. @boston25#lindsayclancy said she was doing ok. decreased appetite. 2mg valium. no motivation, felt numb, force herself to get out of bed and house. sleeping ok. @boston25 no suicidal, homicidal ideation.
Dr. Tufts: next saw #lindsayclancy on 12/16/22. She was still not feeling well, having a rough time. Vallium and seraquel helped w/sleep. Some suicidal ideation. "A hopelessness, a fear of not getting better." @boston25
dr Tufts: I advised she have one person managing meds. I was concerned she wasn't following through on mental health plan and was getting different medications. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Tufts: #LindsayClancy was prescribed Prozac, remeron, klonopin, trazdon serequel through south shore clinic. Remeron gave her a feeling like she was going to die. she denied suicidal thoughts, but close to it. Felt very hopeless.
Dr. Tufts: met with Lindsay again on 12/1/22. Lindsay scheduled it. said she did not return to work. she said she wasnt gettign better. tried ativan taper, but without it, couldn't sleep. @boston25
Dr: Tufts next meeting with #lindsayclancy on 11/22/22. Lindsay told me she had enrolled in South Shore Perinatal Mental Health Clinic. She was still taking ativan. Said she was going to switch to Prozac. Said she was transfering her care to clinic @boston25
Dr. Tufts: discussed remeron, trazodone, hydroxycene as alternatives for ativan. "they are safer and less risk of dependency." we talked about slowly reducing medication. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Tufts: on 11/2/22 next appointment. #lindsayclancy had not started Buspar, afraid to start new prescription. still taking ativan. talked alternatives to ativan. I didnt want her on it for long period of time. I has risk of dependency. @boston25
Dr. Tufts: one week later, #LindsayClancy was depressed, anxious. Ativan did not help sleep. Linday on her own took otc benadryl to help with sleep. @boston25
Dr. Tufts on 10/21 came up with new plan prescribed Ativan. as needed for severe anxiety. Started at .5 dose, lowest possible for one week. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Tufts said #lindsayclancy did not take prescribed Zoloft after 1st meeting, concern for side effects. But when she took 2 doses she complained of side effects and wanted to get off of it. She was depressed about it. and concerned about starting a 2nd drug. @boston25
Plymouth DA office on "hot mic" issue: "We pulled video. Camera pans away and one of our prosecutors says "shut it off" meaning the screen with the autopsy photos." #lindsayclancy@boston25
Courtroom tension. Earlier, attorney Kevin Reddington loudly complained to judge "They got caught on hot mic saying shut her up during the playing of that autopsy (Thurs). Later, judge warned against inappropriate behavior. "There will be no yellow card." @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Tufts: Initial prescription for #LindsayClancy was 25 mg Zoloft (SSRI) for one week, increase to 50mg . It's a first line med for treating anxiety disorder and it is seen as safe for women who are breastfeeding. @boston25
DA: Did you note any signs of psychosis with #LindsayClancy that day? Dr. Tufts: No. DA: Did you ask her if she ever heard voices? Dr. Tufts: I believe I did DA: What was her response? Dr. Tufts: No. @boston25
Dr. Tufts: First session with #lindsayclancy was telehealth. She was asked if she had homicidal, suicidal intent, auditory hallucinations she answered no. @boston25
Dr. Tufts testified that on a self reporting form, Lindsay answered NO to questions concerning thoughts of suicide or hearing voices urging her to hurt self or others. this is Sept 2022. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Tufts when #LindsayClancy first met her, she complained of anxiety, depression, distracted, feelings of guilt, unable to feel pleasure, racing thoughts. @boston25

Dr. Goodheart, in cross, said over 20yr she has seen a lot of patients for postpartum depression. She doesn't think she ever saw a case of postpartum psychosis. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Goodheart #lindsayclancy was asked if she wanted to kill herself, she denied it. she was asked if she had a plan to kill herself, she denied it. she was asked if she wanted to harm anyone else. She denied it. @boston25
Dr. Goodheart: when #LindsayClancy released from McLean: I did not have any concern about her safety or anything else. She was future oriented, caring mother. Had her parents, family support. She had outpatient care avail. @boston25
Dr. Goodheart #lindsayclancy wanted to leave early b/c she was anxious and wanted to be with family and children. I advised its ok if there is a psychiatric followup @boston25
DA: Did you consider post partum? Dr. Goodheart: Yes, she had a child. Risk of post partum depression, psychosis is a serious condition. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Goodheart; We observed no symptoms of psychosis. After meeting Dr's initial diagnosis was insomnia w/mental health condition. needed more time for full diagnosis. @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Goodheart met with #LindsayClancy on 1/3/23. She was polite, anxious. She did not want to be dependent on anti-psychotic medication to sleep. No thoughts of suicide. No plan. Said she wouldn't to it because of her family, children, mother @boston25
Dr. Goodheart plan for Lindsay at McLean was to reduce Seroquel and monitor symptoms. She slept well. No hallucinations, delusions @boston25#lindsayclancy
Dr. Goodheart: #LindsayClancy chief complaint was she was finding it hard to sleep without meds. She felt numb, and had complaint about side effects of her meds. @boston25
Carney testified she saw videos #LindsayClancy posted of herself working out at home w/kids in background. DA: Did you see the kids playing with exercise bands? Carney: Sure. I dont recall. @boston25
Hardy said she last saw Cora and Dawson 1/13 and 1/17. #LindsayClancy dropped them off. Things appeared normal. "She seemed happy to be there and kids were happy to see her." @boston25
Back in Plymouth Superior Court for #LindsayClancy trial. Kimberlee Hardy, child services director for Kingsbury Club, a members only athletic club, is on the stand. Hardy ran the playroom, place parents could drop off children while they work out. @boston25
“She was very, very good. She fed them great,” Christopher Clancy told the court. “She did a lot of things with them. They were like the All-American family.”
