Mattapan deadly shooting investigation

MATTAPAN, Mass. — Members of the Human Trafficking Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, District B-3 officers, Massachusetts State Police High-Risk Victims Unit, and the FBI Child Exploitation & Human Trafficking Task Force arrested 6 individuals as part of an ongoing investigation.

On Thursday, February 6, at 9 PM, officers conducted a sweep of an apartment at 884 Cummins Highway.

During the sweep, officers noticed an open window that appeared to have looked like someone jumped through it. Officers searched outside the building and found a discarded handgun with 12 rounds loaded. There was also blood on the snow, presumably from a person who jumped out of a window.

Shortly after, officers noticed a vehicle fleeing the area and conducted a traffic stop.

The operator of the vehicle, 42-year-old Jamell Spurill of Boston, did not have an active license and was placed under arrest.

The passenger of the vehicle appeared to have injuries consistent with that of someone jumping out of a window. The individual was placed under arrest for two warrants and charged with:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
  • Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number
  • Armed Career Criminal Level 3

The suspect was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and then taken into booking.

Officers still at the scene located 17 plastic bags of cocaine and placed the following individuals under arrest:

  • A 15-year-old Juvenile male, charged with Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
  • Betzabeliz Rivera, 31, of Mattapan, had an active warrant for Possession of Class B.
  • Amaury Guzman, 32, of Mattapan, had an active warrant for Unarmed Burglary.
  • Charles Griffin, 29, of Mattapan, had an active warrant for Shoplifting.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
