Homicide investigation underway after woman found dead in Marlboro parking lot, suspect in custody

MARLBORO, Mass — A homicide investigation is underway and a suspect is in custody after a woman was found dead in a Marlboro hotel parking lot Thursday afternoon.

The woman was found dead in the Holiday Inn parking lot on Lakeside Avenue around 12:38 p.m. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Marlboro Police deemed the incident an “apparent homicide.”

Lyle Humpton and his wife are from Delaware, visiting their kids and grandkids, and they had just checked into the hotel.

“There was some coordination at the front desk and actually, we went down to look at the pool and there was a police officer there making sure nobody came outside the boundary of the parking lot, when we pulled in to check in he was nice, he said after you check in please back out because this is a crime scene on the other side,” said Humpton.

One crime scene was in the back parking lot of the hotel, where police, cleanup crews and the medical examiner were all investigating.

Then the other crime scene was towards the front of the hotel, surrounding a pickup truck, where police spent hours taking pictures and gathering evidence.

“We drove up and we saw all these cars and we were gonna go check in and we saw the news vans and all of this stuff happening,” said Terry Barroso, who came from New Hampshire. “I mean we really thought Marlborough was a safe community so we’re pretty shocked by this.”

Barroso says after seeing a homicide investigation, they decided to turn around and find another place to stay.

The hotel manager says the suspect and victim were not guests of the hotel and had nothing to do with the Holiday Inn. The crime scene remained in the parking lot outside of the hotel.

The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office has not yet identified the woman who died or the suspect who was arrested.

The DA’s office and Marlboro police are actively investigating the incident.
