Fire crews extinguish house fire in North Reading

North Reading Fire Department

NORTH READING, Mass. — Fire crews in North Reading were able to quickly knock down a house fire early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred just after 8:30 AM after members of the North Reading Fire Department were dispatched to 6 Swan Pond Road in response to reports of a house fire.

Once there, firefighters saw smoke coming from the left side of the home. Firefighters began attacking the fire and were able to quickly extinguish it. Additional fire crews responded to the scene to help with remaining fire suppression and support.

Fortunately, the homeowner and their dog were able to safely evacuate from the home before the arrival of firefighters. The homeowner was taken to a hospital for some inhalation treatment.

“Thanks to our increased staffing levels, we were able to quickly knock down this fire with two fully staffed engines, a ladder, and complete command staff, filling the positions needed to effectively operate,” said Chief Stats. “Our firefighters made an excellent stop on this fire, containing it quickly and preventing it from spreading beyond the area where it originated. I want to also thank our mutual aid partners for their continued support, which helps ensure we can continue to provide a high level of service to our community.”

The cause of the fire, which does not appear to be suspicious, remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
