DANVERS, Mass. — A Danvers resident reported homophobic graffiti at the softball field on Pickering Street on Sunday. This incident is part of a string of similar incidents dating back to November.
However, the Town decided it will no longer issue public statements every time a similar incident is discovered, according to town officials.
The town of Danvers fears the attention created by a public statement is encouraging more of the same behavior.
Last week on December 14, the wrestling team was suspended for racist behavior.
Last month, two swastikas were found in middle school bathrooms.
And a few weeks ago, the hockey team was accused of allegations of racism and homophobic activity.
The Town will continue to document incidents, in partnership with Danvers Public Schools (DPS), the District Attorney’s Office, the individuals, and their families and take appropriate actions depending on the circumstances.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
