PEMBROKE, Mass. — Speed and bad weather may have been factors in a single-vehicle crash in Pembroke on Friday that killed two men, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said Sunday.
William Hickey of Pembroke and Joseph Birolini of Hanson, who were both 23, died in the crash, Cruz said.
At 12:57 a.m. Friday, Pembroke Police received several 911 calls reporting a single-car motor vehicle crash at 104 Elm St. involving 2012 Lexus SUV.
Hickey, who was driving the SUV, and Birolini, a passenger, were both sent by ambulance to South Shore Hospital, Cruz said. Biroloni was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the crash; Hickey died of his injuries Saturday afternoon.
Investigators found that the Lexus SUV was traveling east/southeast on Elm Street when it crossed the center line, crossed the opposite lane of travel, and left the roadway, Cruz said. The vehicle struck a tree, rolled over and came to a final resting position after striking a utility pole.
The investigation is ongoing.
