DA identifies man killed in pedestrian crash in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, Mass. — Authorities have identified the man killed in a pedestrian crash in Fitchburg on Friday evening.

Mario Bratkon, 76, of Fitchburg, was struck and killed while walking in a crosswalk in the area of Water and Nichols streets around 8:45 p.m. Friday, according to the district attorney.

A preliminary investigation found that a Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on Water Street struck Bratkon, who was in the crosswalk, state police said.

Bratkon was flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and remained on the scene after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Fitchburg Police, Leominster Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Team along with investigators from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
