Combat veteran Kurt Power on ‘Never Stop Fighting’ tour to help veterans suffering from PTSD

BOSTON — It is a topic we have covered in Boston 25 newscasts many times: Veteran mental health and the growing number of men and women taking their own lives.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 17 veterans commit suicide -- on average -- every day.

And the statistics are getting worse.

Since 2005, the VA has identified a 6.3 percent increase in the number of suicide deaths in the veteran population.

Kurt Power is a Massachusetts man who is an Army, Iraq and combat war veteran, a sergeant and a Purple Heart recipient who survived a sniper’s bullet.

I’ve talked to him several times over the years. He’s very active in the home base program here, helping out fellow members of our armed forces who suffer from the invisible wounds of war and PTSD.

Bottom line is, he saves lives, and he joined Boston 25 from Jackson Hole, Wyoming on Friday, which is one of many stops on his “Never Stop Fighting tour” to help spread the word that life is worth living!
