Citing ‘unprecedented’ warm temperatures, NH Ice Castles delay opening

NORTH WOODSTOCK, N.H. — Due in part to a plethora of 50 degree and rainy days, Mother Nature has put a damper on one of New Hampshire’s favorite winter attractions.

Ice Castles New Hampshire announced on Tuesday they’ve pushed back their opening date due to unseasonably warm temperatures.

The attraction was supposed to open on January 19, but a spokesperson for the attraction tells Boston 25 News they’re now targeting January 27 for opening day.

The company says the “unprecedented warm start to winter” has hindered their ability to create the full ice castle experience, causing them to push the event back a week.

The January 27 date is the latest opening date for the New Hampshire Ice Castles in their 10 year history.

“As a weather dependent attraction, built entirely from ice, we are unable to build the castles in temperatures above freezing,” a spokesperson said. “We are hopeful that with cold temperatures ahead we will be able to finish building the experience in the next couple of weeks and give guests a magical winter experience at Ice Castles.”

Those who bought tickets for January 19-26 have been contacted and have been given the chance to reschedule their visit or receive a refund, according to the company.
