PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Officials have identified the pilot who died when their plane crashed into a Plymouth pond on Thursday morning.
81-year-old Richard Carrara, of Kingston, became trapped when his small aircraft crashed in Curlew Pond in Myles Standish State Forest around 7:45 a.m., according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office.
After rescue personnel pulled him from the crash, Carrara was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Carrara‘s plane had departed Plymouth Municipal Airport around 6:30 a.m. for Martha’s Vineyard and was on its way back to Plymouth when the crash occurred.
He was the only person inside the plane.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
