HINGHAM, Mass. — A 9-year-old boy was hurt after he was hit by an SUV while in a marked crosswalk in Hingham Wednesday evening and police said the driver of the SUV drove around vehicles that were stopped.

Officers say the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. in front of the Plymouth River School on High Street when the two boys were crossing the street and the driver of the SUV, a 61-year-old Scituate woman, drove around cars stopped on the eastbound side and struck the 9-year-old. The other child in the crosswalk was not injured. Police said in addition to the crosswalk being clearly marked, there’s also a crosswalk warning sign

The boy was flown to Mass. General Hospital and was conscious and alert, Hingham police said.

The driver, whose name was not released, stopped at the scene and is facing multiple traffic violations, including negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and a marked lanes violation. She is due in Hingham District Court at a future date.
