BOSTON — Police have identified the 70-year-old woman who died Tuesday after she was hit while riding her bicycle by a man driving a utility truck on Blue Hills Parkway. That victim is Virginia Chalmers, 70, of Dorchester.

Authorities had to close down the two left inbound travel lanes on Blue Hills Parkway after Chalmers was fatally struck by an Eversource utility truck on Eliot Street around 3 p.m. while riding her bike.

Police said the driver of the truck, a 62-year-old man, struck the woman while taking a right turn onto Eliot Street off of the northbound side of Blue Hills Parkway. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Eversource confirmed one of their employees was involved in the crash. In a release, a spokesperson said:

We’ll support and assist with the investigation to understand how this accident took place. We’ll also make sure our employees, who were overtaken with grief, have access to support services throughout the investigation. Finally, we are committed to understanding how this happened and what, if anything, could have been done to prevent this tragedy.”

No charges have been filed against the driver. The cause of the crash is under investigation by State Police from the Milton barracks.
