LAKEVILLE, Mass. — Four people were sent to the hospital after a car left the roadway and crashed into trees late Saturday night, fire officials said.

The crash occurred on Pierce Avenue in Lakeville around 10:45 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters responded to the scene after receiving several 911 calls reporting the crash. When they arrived, they found one person still trapped inside a black sedan with heavy front-end damage, fire officials said.

Crews used the Jaws of Life extrication tool to extricate one person from the vehicle. Three other people were able to get out of the car themselves.

All four occupants were taken by ambulance to area hospitals for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, fire officials said. Two people were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, and two others were taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Their conditions were not known on Sunday.

“Chief O’Brien would like to commend the performance of the firefighters who responded,” the Fire Department said in a post on Facebook. “With an on-duty complement of 3 firefighters, this operation was only possible with the help of off duty and on-call firefighters.”

Berkley and Freetown provided assistance.
