2nd Tufts University bomb threat in as many days evacuates campus, postpones exams

MEDFORD, Mass — The 2nd bomb threat in as many days at Tufts University’s Medford/Somerville campus prompted an evacuation and caused classes to be canceled for the rest of the day.

Authorities searched East Hall, Anderson Hall, Bendetson Hall, 7th floor of the Dowling building, Paige Hall, Miner Hall, Joyce Cummings Center, SEC Complex, and Robinson Hall. No bomb threat was found but classes were canceled for the rest of the day due to an “abundance of caution.”

Around 1:15 p.m, University Police gave the all clear and said “no threats have been identified.”

According to the school, most 8:30 a.m. exams were able to proceed as scheduled. All exams scheduled for later on in the day were postponed and all other exams will shift to an online format.

Libraries, laboratories and dining halls will remain open.

Police told students need a place to go, they should go to the Gantcher Center at 161 College Ave. in Medford.

Wednesday night, a bomb threat was also reported and the campus was checked and deemed safe to return.

Tufts tells Boston 25 that “This is the second threat in two days – yesterday and today. We don’t have additional information at this time but will continue to make you aware of any updates.”

Everyone is encouraged to resume normal activity and both incidents remain under investigation.
