2 people shot on Dudley Street, Boston Police say

BOSTON — Two people were shot and wounded in a brazen daytime shooting on Dudley Street late Wednesday afternoon, Boston Police said.

It happened at Mary Hannon Park in Dorchester. The victims remain hospitalized, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

One man told Boston 25 that he heard the gun shots, and immediately ran over and started to apply pressure on the man and the woman.

Police confirmed that they responded to the 600 block of Dudley Street around 5 p.m. after receiving reports of two people shot in that area.

Leslie Harris and his step son were out walking the dog when they saw police activity.

“That’s bad, sad about that happening,” said Harris.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two shooting victims.

Boston 25 News obtained cell phone video that shows the suspects on two different scooters when they fired the gun.

The shooting happened as several children were out playing basketball.

“I feel sad that I can’t play basketball with my friends,” said Elijah Simmons from Dorchester.

One father told Boston 25 that he often sits in his car, and watches as his son and his friends play, in case something happens.

Last July 4, an 8-year-old and a 35-year-old man were shot at the same park.

Wednesday’s shooting occurred as the city is grappling with a spate of shootings in recent days.

On Tuesday, Boston Police identified the two teenage boys killed in a shooting in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood on Sunday night.

Then last Tuesday, a 21-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant store clerk was shot in the head during a robbery in Roxbury. He remains in a coma, and the gunman is still on the run.

Police are still looking for the shooters who were on scooters from Wednesday’s shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Boston Police.
