19-year-old man facing several charges for brazen Memorial Day weekend Revere Beach shooting

REVERE, Mass. — A 19-year-old Malden man has been arrested and is facing assault and weapons charges in connection with a shooting near Revere Beach that forced hundreds to empty the beach on Memorial Day Weekend, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

Dashawn Teleau was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on Thursday with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a loaded firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

On May 28 Revere Police responded to reports of seven shots fired in the area of 127 Centennial Avenue. A witness to the shooting provided police with a 41-second video of the incident, which shows a large group of males fighting. One of the males, wearing gray shorts with a large Nike logo on one leg, a white tank top and gray sneakers, pulls a black firearm from his pocket and fires seven or eight shots into the crowd.

A 17-year-old girl was struck by a bullet fired during a fight between two groups of youths in that area.

The suspect was later identified as Teleau in a photo array by the victim, Hayden said.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested earlier this week in connection to the chaotic scene at Revere Beach that left authorities patrolling the area for hours.

“During a very chaotic scene the patrol division was able to manage the crime scene, secure evidence and interview witnesses all of which provided valuable evidence for our investigators. The detective division worked tirelessly and were able to obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect”, stated Revere Police Chief David Callahan.

Teleau was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on June 13.
