127th Boston Marathon: Here’s how you can track your favorite runners

BOSTON — It will certainly be difficult to get a glimpse of your favorite runners with tens of thousands of people set to compete in the 127th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday and a sea of spectators expected to line the 26.2-mile route from Hopkinton to Boston.

The Boston Athletic Association assigns bib numbers to all runners that allow them to track the times of athletes. Those numbers also serve as a way for fans to track friends and loved ones as they run.

The B.A.A. Racing app, which is available as a free download in the Apple Store and Google Play, allows fans to track runners by their name or bib number, and view live leaderboards and course maps.

To make things easy for fans, the B.A.A. has launched a database of searchable bib numbers.
