127th Boston Marathon: Winners crowned as thousands embark on grueling 26.2-mile trek (live updates)

BOSTON — More than 30,000 runners and athletes from 100 countries worldwide will make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston this Patriots’ Day for the 127th edition of the historic Boston Marathon.

The Men’s Wheelchair division kicked off the race shortly after 9 a.m. The Women’s Wheelchair division and the Handcycles & Duos groups followed. Professional Men, Professional Women, and the Para Athletics Division got on the course later after 9:30 a.m.

All other competitors are slated to be sent off in four waves between 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

Runners will pass through Hopkinton, Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, and Brookline on their way into Boston.

The race concludes when runners eventually cross the finish line on Boylston Street.

Longtime Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is among a number of notable athletes competing.

The city marked 10 years since the bombing on Saturday, the calendar anniversary.

Henry Richard, the older brother of Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard, completed his second consecutive Boston Marathon on Monday. He finished the 26.2-mile course in 4:40:45.

Now 20, Henry Richard was just 10 years old when his little brother was killed in the 2013 Marathon bombing.

Longtime Boston Bruins captain and NHL great Zdeno Chara completed the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:38:23.

Chebet successfully defended his title, spoiling the debut of world record holder Eliud Kipchoge.

Susannah Scaroni of the United States crosses the finish line to win the women’s wheelchair division in the 127th Boston Marathon. She finished with a time of 1:41:45.

The victory marked Scaroni’s first Boston title. The win followed runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2022.

Marcel Hug of Switzerland crosses the finish line to win the men’s wheelchair race in the 127th Boston Marathon. He finished with a course record time of 1:17:06.

The victory marked his sixth men’s wheelchair Boston Marathon title. It also bests his previous course mark of 1:18:04 set in 2017.

Hug received $25,000 for the victory and a $50,000 bonus for setting the new course mark.
